The UK Cards Association welcomes the announcement of a new partnership in the fight against the theft of payment card data. The European Card Payment Association (ECPA), of which UK Cards is a member, has today joined the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council (PCI SSC) as a strategic regional member of the PCI Council.

The PCI SSC develops the internationally recognised technical requirements and business processes that protect against payment data theft, called the PCI Data Security Standard. The standard is used around the world to help businesses process card payments securely and reduce card fraud. It brings tight controls surrounding the storage, transmission and processing of cardholder data that businesses handle.

The ECPA joins over 700 organisations and 28 board member companies and associations from around the world who contribute to the ongoing evolution of the PCI Security Standard.
